Civil War tore the Marvel Universe apart, pitting hero against hero, friend against friend. Captain America lay dead, felled by a sniper's bullet. The Skrulls' Secret Invasion was uncovered — heroes have been replaced by alien shapeshifters for decades. In this, the hour of the Marvel Universe's greatest upheavals, five heroes from another era appear in the center of New York City!

The strangers claim to be the Invaders, costumed heroes of World War II — Captain America, Bucky, Namor, the Human Torch, and Toro. How will two Avengers teams — one government sponsored, the other fugitives from the law — react to these mysterious strangers? Can the Invaders be who they claim to be? And what does their appearance in the year 2008 portend? These questions and more will be answered in Marvel's twelve-issue maxi-series Avengers/Invaders from creators Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, and Steve Sadowski!

In the planning for over two years, Ross and Krueger are planning on pulling out all the stops! Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, back in the modern day Marvel Universe. Iron Man, confronting the personal demons that have haunted him since Rogers' death. The young and angry Namor, meeting his older, wiser, more cautious self. Can two Avengers teams — the Mighty Avengers and the New Avengers — learn something from the heroism and nobility of the heroes of the World War II generation, the Greatest Generation? Or will some Avengers see this as an opportunity to upset the balance of history?

Artist Steve Sadowski is no stranger to team books — or to working with Ross and Krueger. Sadowski's work on Avengers and DC's JSA prepared him well for tackling the Golden Age-meets-Modern Age story of Avengers/Invaders. Plus, Sadowski worked with Ross and Krueger on their Earth X tie-in books. Wrapped in painted covers from Alex Ross, this maxi-series will be a visual treat.

Avengers/Invaders will shape the Marvel Universe for years to come! Don't miss what is certain to be one of the most talked-about comic events of 2008!

"In light of the events of Civil War and Tony Stark's own guilt over the death of [Captain America], the meeting between those two heroes is going to be an emotional jackhammer. One that will rip through the story."
— Writer Jim Krueger

Avengers/Invaders, a 12 issue crossover by Alex Ross, Jim Krueger and Steve Sadowski, will begin in May.

DC Comics announces that the cover price on the BATMAN: DEATH MASK miniseries has been lowered to just $2.99 per issue!

BATMAN: DEATH MASK is written and illustrated by Yoshinori Natsume, acclaimed creator of Toguri, who makes his American comics debut with this original Batman manga tale.

In BATMAN: DEATH MASK #1, there’s a new serial killer in Gotham, one who may have ties to the training Bruce Wayne acquired as a young man in Japan. Does the murderer know that Bruce Wayne is the Batman?

And in BATMAN: DEATH MASK #2, Bruce Wayne must confront his past and examine how the time he spent training to become Batman affected him — and whether those experiences led to the killer now rampaging through Gotham City’s underworld. (This black-and-white miniseries no longer will be in Prestige Format, and will be saddle stitched instead of squarebound.)

BATMAN: DEATH MASK #1 (FEB080205) is solicited in the February Previews and is scheduled to arrive in stores on April 9 with a cover price of $2.99 U.S.

BATMAN: DEATH MASK #2 (MAR080156) is solicited in the March Previews and is scheduled to arrive in stores on May 7 with a cover price of $2.99 U.S.

Marc has also teased about the new artist: the artist is a male and has vowels in his name. You can take a look at who has been guessed here.

World's Finest has commented that Warner Bros. Animation may be working on an animated version of the classic series Brave and the Bold.

While nothing is confirmed at this time, the The Brave And The Bold animated series will apparently center around Batman teaming up with a different DC superhero in each episode. The series will also apparently have no ties to any previous animated incarnations. The Brave And The Bold is rumored to premiere next fall though, once again, nothing is confirmed at this time.

Since 2008 is the 50th anniversary of the Legion, I thought they should be up next for the fave 5. DC Comics has some stuff planned out for this year, including the awesome "Superman and the Legion of Super Heroes" story which should be ending in next month's Action Comics.

Legion of Super-Heroes v2 #300

This was the 1st Legion issue I ever picked up, about 15 years ago. I still catch myself reading it from time to time!

Legion of Substitute-Heroes Special #1

Because of this special, I LOVE the subs!

Adventure Comics #312

Great story of sacrifice from the Legion's early days, and also an inspiration for "The Lightning Saga"

Legion of Super-Heroes v2 #293

If you haven't read "The Great Darkness Saga" run to your LCS and find them! Awesome Legion story, the one that got me totally hooked!

Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes (paperback, 1977)

Long Live The Legion!

Be on the lookout for Age of TV Heroes book by George Khoury and Jason Hofius, due in November from Two Morrows Publishing. Featured on the cover: George Reeves as Superman; Adam West as Batman; Lynda Carter from Wonder Woman and Jackson Bostwick, from the 70s Captain Marvel series.

Marvel Comics’ greatest heroes face exposed adversaries, universal turmoil and their greatest threat – each other – in Secret Invasion #1 (FEB08 2240, $3.99), the 56-page beginning of the eight-issue limited series that anchors Marvel’s first major event of 2008!

Readers have loyally tracked events to this point via tie-in stories in numerous Marvel titles and are primed for the explosive action orchestrated by writer Brian Michel Bendis and artist Leinil Francis Yu in this cornerstone issue. The intrigue begins as the fiendish replacement of one member in every super-hero organization with a shape-shifting Skrull forces the Marvel heroes to question each other even as they join to fight for humanity’s survival. All this, plus four Skrull reveals and three major universe-changing events in this issue alone, should make this a can’t-miss event for fans!

The full-color premiere is set to ship on April 2.

"Marvel 1985," a six-issue mini-series from Marvel Comics beginning this May. CBR has an interview with Mark Millar. Marvel:1985 goes on sale May 14, 2008.

The Watchmen blog has new promotional shots of the characters from "Watchmen." The movie will premiere March 6, 2009.

Watchmen is set in 1985, in an alternative history United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union (the Doomsday Clock is at five minutes to midnight). It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own. Watchmen depicts superheroes as real people who must confront ethical and personal issues, who struggle with neuroses and failings, and who - with one notable exception - lack anything recognizable as super powers.

The Japanese publisher Shueisha has announced that Stan Lee, the co-creator of America's Spider-Man and X-Men from Marvel Comics, and Hiroyuki Takei, the creator of Shaman King, will create a new project together to launch the Jump SQ.II (Jump Square Second) spinoff manga magazine on April 18. The announcement of the as-yet-unnamed project was made in the April issue of Jump Square magazine, which was released on March 4 in Japan.

In a move that furthers its mission to expand the comics’ market, the board of directors of the direct market retailer trade group ComicsPRO is assuming the organization and facilitation of 24 Hour Comics Day ("24HCD"), the annual comics creation event started by About Comics publisher Nat Gertler.

24HCD is a scheduled challenge during which single artists attempt to create a full 24 page comic story in 24 consecutive hours. Past 24HCD events have seen comic pros and aspiring cartoonists participate at special events in comic book stores and other venues around the world. ComicsPRO is taking over the administration of 24HCD as a way to support the creation of new comics’ material and also to promote and support comics’ retailers. Past 24HCD events have generated substantial press coverage for participating cartoonists and retailers. The event also gives retailers a creative way to get involved with public schools, libraries, universities, and local art communities.

Additionally, Ohio State University will house all of the submitted 24 Hour comics’ entries, providing a permanent home to 24HCD archives within its Cartoon Research Library, which already boasts a large collection of original art and regular comic art exhibits.

ComicsPRO will announce the specific date of 2008’s 24 Hour Comics Day soon.

ComicsPRO board member Rick Lowell (Casablanca Comics, Portland ME) said, "Our store has participated in 24HCD since its inception, and the event has always generated a great amount of local press as well as national press. We’ve partnered with arts venues in the city to expose comics to a much wider audience. The opportunity for stores to reach out to the public with such events is important for the continued health and growth of the comics market. With ComicsPRO's involvement in managing this event, that opportunity should continue for years to come."

"I have a lot of respect for the individual retailers who founded ComicsPRO. The participation of comic book retailers – including many ComicsPRO members – has been key to 24 Hour Comics Day's success," said Nat Gertler, founder of 24 Hour Comics Day and publisher of the About Comics line. "We had a number of fine people and organizations eager to help 24 Hour Comics Day continue to grow, and I'd like to thank FX International, the Minnesota Cartoonist Conspiracy, and Pittsburgh's Toonseum for their willingness and passion in supporting comics creation. I'm proud of how quickly this event has grown, and look forward to seeing it continue to grow with the additional abilities that ComicsPRO brings. But the best part of not having to manage 24 Hour Comics Day is that now I'm free to participate in 24 Hour Comics Day!"

Nat Gertler’s About Comics is a small but diverse comics publisher and packager, best known for publications including a series of 24 Hour Comics trade paperbacks, collections of the work of creators ranging from Kurt Busiek to Charles M. Schulz, and Panel One and Panel Two, books of comic book scripts by top writers.

ComicsPRO, the Comics Professional Retailers Organization, is the only trade organization dedicated to the progress of direct market comic book retailers. ComicsPRO represents a membership of more than 100 comic specialty retail companies comprising more than 140 storefronts. Retailers interested in helping to secure a stronger future for the comics specialty market are encouraged to join.

More information and membership applications are available at http://ComicsPRO.org.

Marv Wolfman, one of the screenplay writers for the direct-to-video Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated feature, has confirmed the DC Universe Animated Movie is currently on hold.

Wolfman has confirmed the reports appearing online stating the movie is currently on hold because, according to Warner Home Video, there may not be enough of an audience for a Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated feature to be successful. Teen Titans: The Judas Contract was originally scheduled to be the third DC Universe Animated Movie before Warner Home Video delayed it, opting to produce Batman: Gotham Knight and Wonder Woman direct-to-video animated features instead. While the Teen Titans: The Judas Contract is on hold, that does not mean the title is dead. It's just currently on hold as other projects are developed.

Wolfman continues, saying that fans should contact Warner Home Video to let them know of the demand for a Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated feature. Below is the contact information to send your thoughts and concerns regarding the future of the Teen Titans: The Judas Contract direct-to-video animated feature.
