Shazam/Superman is finally nearing a release date & I couldn't be more excited. This is suposed to be the story of when Superman & Captain Marvel first met... written by Judd Winick & art and cover by Josh Middleton, this book, if successful, could possibly lead to a new Marvel Family book.

Captain Atom will Quantum Leap into the Wildstorm Universe & will sport his "Kingdom Come" costume in Captain Atom:Armageddon #1, the first of a 9-issue miniseries starting in October. Issue #1 features covers by Alex Ross and Jim Lee. Carried off from the Superman/Batman story and features Captain Atom sent in quantum leap into the Wildstorm Universe which triggered events that threaten to destroy the Wildstorm Universe.

The tale of the first meeting of two of comics' greatest icons get under way in the long awaited 4-issue miniseries Shazam/Superman: First Thunder in September, written by Judd Winick and illustrated by Joshua Middleton.



The Girl of Steel returns in Supergirl #1, written by Jeph Loeb with art by Ian Churchill. Note that issue #1 ships with alternate covers by Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund and Michael Turner. Supergirl #0, being released the same day (August 10th) is a reprint of the solo story in Superman/Batman #19. #1 establishes the differences between her and Power Girl. # 2 deals with her relationship with the Teen Titans whether or not there will be one. Issue # 3 features the Outsiders. By the end of issue # 6 any connections she might have with previous Supergirls SHOULD BE clarified," said Loeb.

The true origin of Power Girl is revealed at last in the first story arc in JSA: CLASSIFIED #1, written by Geoff Johns with art by Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti.

In October's issue #24, the fate of the universe hangs in the balance unless Batwoman and Superwoman can save the day — with the help of Superlad! Issue # 26 is plotted by Jeph Loeb's son, Sam. It was Sam’s last work before his untimely death.


The Crisis of Conscience story in JLA right now leads directly into Infinite Crisis, with the climatic chapter in September's issue #119 as the JLA face off against Despero in Wayne Manor...

At the end of this year, two of the greatest icons in the history of comics meet at last in Batman/The Spirit, a stand alone Special written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Darwyn Cooke.

And in the new year, look for The Spirit, the first issue of a new, ongoing series written and illustrated by Darwyn. This new series is set in modern-day Central City, where The Spirit will face villains both old and new.

Also coming in December is The Best of the Spirit, an affordable trade paperback collecting almost two dozen stories by Will Eisner, with a new introduction by Neil Gaiman.

The All Star line expands in November when writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely take on the Man of Tomorrow with All Star Superman.

Cartoon Network has scheduled the "Clash" episode of Justice League Unlimited for Saturday, June 11 at 9 p.m. Captain Marvel, the World's Mightiest Mortal, joins the Justice League as Lex Luthor initiates a new plot. There's also an encore on Sunday, June 12 at 10:30 p.m. Jerry O'Connell supplies the voice of Captain Marvel and Shane Haboucha supplies the voice of Billy Batson.

JSA #73, the first chapter of the highly anticipated 3-part tale "Black Vengeance" and a tie-in to DAY OF VENGEANCE, has sold out at DC Comics. The issue, written by Geoff Johns with art by Don Kramer & Keith Champagne and a cover by Alex Ross, sold out twelve days after arriving in stores on May 11.

"I couldn't be happier," says writer Geoff Johns. "BLACK REIGN was a story we're very proud of, and I'm glad people are jumping on board for the follow-up. Alex's covers for the book have been simply stunning."

Shazam, the Golden Age Captain Marvel got his start in Whiz Comics # 1 way back in 1940, when the concept of superheroes was still new to the world. He was the first to have a family (Captain Marvel Jr., Mary Marvel, even Uncle Marvel!). He even stared in one of the world’s most popular radio syndicated show ever and he was the only superhero in history to surpass Superman in comic books sales. In fact the Marvel Family titles outsold everything else on the market at the height of the comic industry in the mid 1940s. By the 1950’s however, he moved from Fawcett Comics to DC (then known as National Periodicals). He was then revived from obscurity with the 1970s with "Shazam!" comic series & a Saturday morning TV show starring Michael Gray as Billy Batson.

Captain Marvel and his Marvel family were also stars of one of DC’s more successful & one of the best written mid-90s titles, (1995’s) Power of Shazam! but that’s just history nowadays... but at least history will seem to repeat itself in 2005 as Captain Marvel will join the Man of Steel in the April Superman titles. Check out Superman #216, Action Comics #826 & Adventures of Superman #638 by Judd Winick (Green Arrow scribe) and Ian Churchill. Be sure to check out the Superman/Shazam!: First Thunder, a 4 issue mini-series by Winick and (former NYX artist) Josh Middleton to debut this coming summer.

First Thunder is a prequel to the 3 part Superman story. Both stories will include Eclipso. Also, Jeff Smith’s (Bone) delayed & highly anticipated four-issue Shazam! mini-series will see the light of day in late 2005. Smith will write, draw, letter and color the project all by himself. After 2005 is over, I feel Captain Marvel will return to the top tier of DC’s super-elite.
