Director DJ Caruso on Y: The Last Man:
Q: Is "Y: The Last Man" going to happen?
Caruso: It's probably going to be happening, yeah. With New Line now part of Warner Brothers, Warners is now very high on the project. And Carl Ellsworth and I are probably going to deliver the script to WB/New Line by next week.
Q: Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say that you've cracked "Y: The Last Man"?
Caruso: What I mean by that is that there's so much to choose from. Just trying to narrow down the story, and in all the drafts written over the years there's a lot of great stuff in there, but what I think "Y" was missing in screenplay form was a ticking clock. So we did something where we separated Yorick from [pet monkey] Ampersand for a brief period of time where Yorick gets very sick, which kind of opened up the movie in the middle of the act. And also the Agent 355 / Yorick relationship to me has always been sort of a De Niro / Grodin thing. And so I was working on that and not quite getting it right, believe it or not. Because Yorick to me is so solid, it's really like 355 and her journey with Yorick that's been…and also Act 3, where do you end the first movie and how can you go from there? But I think we licked it.
Q: So is this a trilogy?
Caruso: I see it as a trilogy. I definitely see it as a trilogy. I see the first movie ending anywhere basically when you pick up after the incident you're picking up about six weeks later, meeting Yorick six weeks later after the incident and progressing down, I think it's about… only a five or six week journey from that point to the end of the first movie. It's been hard, in a good way, just because there's so much good stuff to choose from, and every time you start throwing certain scenes in the screenplay you'll see that it sort of dislodges and starts to head a different way.

I really didn't think Smallville would last as long as it has, but I'll keep watching just because I want to see Clark fly and maybe put on the suit. Writers/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have left the show, and many things will change starting this fall. Until then...
* Kara is not returning as a regular this season, only appearing in a few episodes permitting scheduling. I'm hoping they'll use Kara more and get her out of the Phantom Zone soon!
* Justin Hartley will be back as Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) as a more prominent supporting character
* Kristin Kreuk (Lana) will be in a limited number of episodes next season as will Michael Rosenbaum (Lex)
* Geoff Johns will be writing an episode of Smallville featuring the Legion of Super-Heroes.
* Davis Bloome (Doomsday) and Cassidy Freeman (Tess) are set to fill the void from Rosenbaum exiting the show
* some Justice League members will show up in the season premiere

Anyway, IGN reports that at Comic-Con, Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President of Production (wotta title), was asked if a new Marvel vs. Capcom game was possible someday. His reply: “Yes. And maybe sooner than you think.”
IGN goes on to say that a Capcom under-production title, probably for Japan release only, could provide the guts for the game, allowing it to be turned around in a relatively short time.
The new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" smashed the weekend record set by "Spider-Man 3" last year, selling an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets during its first three days of release across North America. The Caped Crusader also generated $40 million from 20 foreign markets. More recently, "The Dark Knight" was the number-one movie for the second week in a row, raking in $75.6 million.
The Dark Knight' has just become the first movie ever to gross $300 million in its first 10 days, beating 2006's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which took 16 days. Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman is anticipating that The Dark Knight will reach the $400-million mark in 18 days -- topping over 2004's Shrek 2, which took 43. If The Dark Knight keeps this up, chances are it'll surpass 1997's Oscar-winning massive epic Titanic, which still holds the record as the highest-grossing film of all time at $600 million dollars domestically.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold is set to debut on November 14, 2008 on Cartoon Network. The series will have Batman team up with various DC Comics heroes. This trailer was shown at Comic-Con.

DC Universe Online is an MMO being developed by Sony Online's Austin studio. Jim Lee serves as Executive Creative Director, with Ale Garza, Carlos D'Anda, and Scott Iwahashi. EverQuest developers, Chris Cao and Shawn Lord are also involved. Some of the details have been revealed in a recent issue of U.K.’s Edge magazine, and summarized by Eurogamer.
While you won’t be able to play Superman or Wonder Woman, you may fight alongside them — or against them — as you create your own superhero or supervillain. Metropolis and Gotham City will be the two large shared environments.
Jim Lee has said "in the future, it’s possible we could see models, environments and costumes from the game turning up in other DC Comics properties, and there are plans for plot crossovers. We can tie-in future DC tentpole events and translate the stories for the gaming world, and have them occur simultaneously. The possibilities are numerous and very exciting."
DC Universe Online for PC & PlayStation 3 is due for release sometime in 2009. For more info you can click here.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Stan Lee, the former Marvel Comics mastermind, and the Walt Disney Company are looking to a time machine to take them to the future of comic books.
Together they're launching "Time Jumper," a franchise featuring a cell phone that makes it possible to go back in history, as a digital comic book that will play out on multiple platforms. Lee's POW! Entertainment will also see an extension to the first-look deal it signed with Disney in June 2007, covering all media.
"I am honored to be in association with Disney, not only through the extension of our original deal, but also in breaking ground by creating a new superhero," said Lee, who on Friday will tout "Jumper" at Comic-Con, the annual comics-related event in San Diego.
The franchise will be brought to life through collaboration by several Disney divisions, including home entertainment, online and publishing.
"Jumper" is the latest high-profile example of the trend in digital comics, which activate the traditionally static panel-based art with moving graphics. Warner Bros. recently released "Mad Love," an online companion to the film "The Dark Knight"; in August, MTV Networks will unveil "Invincible," an adaptation of the Image Comics title.

It seems 'The Dark Knight' game will be on sale this fall close to the DVD release... hopefully it'll be more polished than 'Superman Returns' game was when it was came out.
In the Dark Knight preview Gary Oldman told Kristin (G4) with loose lips that there really is “a Dark Knight Game in the works.” In the preview he joked about a “small scene in the game about his character on a roof top all alone while Batman jumped off the building and opened his wings to fly away to save the day.” He also talked about how it will look when Batman glides in the game. The game is set to be released around the same time as the DVD, near the end of this year.

A Warner Bros. executive says the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" has set a single-day box office record by taking in $66.4 million on opening day.
The movie's Friday haul surpasses the previous record of $59.8 million set last year by "Spider-Man 3." "The Dark Knight" also might break the opening weekend record of $151.1 million that also was posted by "Spider-Man 3."
Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman says the death of co-star Heath Ledger and the buzz about his frenzied performance as the Batman villain Joker was a big part of the movie's allure.

Via ComingSoon:
NBC has released a promo commercial for "Heroes" season 3, which will begin on Sept. 22.
Geoff Johns and George Perez talk LO3W. Posted just in case the page is taken down later.
You couldn't find two creators better suited to reboot the Legion of Super-Heroes in Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds. With artist George Pérez…well, the preceeding pages tell you all about his staggering résumé with super-teams. And with Geoff Johns, you have a writer who's successful revamped Green Lantern, Hawkman, Flash's Rogues Gallery and several others.
With the five-issue Three Worlds miniseries, Johns and Pérez unite all three incarnations of the Legion throughout DC history in a single adventure to halt the menace of Superman-Prime. Gearing up for its Aug. 20 launch, we caught up with Johns and Pérez to see just how pumped they are for the challenge.
On working on the Legion:
JOHNS: Everyone brings passion to [the project]. I bring passion to the story that I'm telling and the characters that I'm working on. George brings passion to the Legion because this is the one book he's wanted to draw for forever. It's just a real honor to be able to work with someone like George on these characters at this time.
PÉREZ: It was just one of those things where everything aligned perfectly. [DC] mentioned the fact that they were doing a story which would incorporate [the original Legion] in addition to the current version and what I call "the Intermediate Legion" by Abnett and Lanning. That was the first time I actually heard the concept of using all the versions of the Legion, and I said, "Well, doesn't that seem to have my fingerprints all over it without me even touching the page?"
On working with each other:
PÉREZ: Geoff usually writes full scripts. This time he's working [plot style]. I draw the artwork, I make notes and then he scripts it from there. It allows me to contribute to a story. I'm a little hamstrung if I'm forced to follow every single panel and every angle that's described on paper. Geoff has been, thankfully, very happy about the little twists and turns I take with the plot and little character bits I add in.
JOHNS: My plots on this are so long and so detailed that it's actually more work than that of a full script. [Laughs] The important thing is not who is punching who. It's what that character is going through and how the characters are interacting. I need to have those beats and those scenes described intricately so George can pick up on all those. I really like it because he knows exactly what he's doing. So, when he comes up with an idea to choreograph something a little differently or make a change, it's been wonderful.
Favorite Legionnaires:
PÉREZ: I have so many. I love trying to get my hands on the female characters. I'm looking forward to doing [Dawnstar], and I like to be able to do a flashback somewhere where she's wearing her old classic costume. I'm hoping that somewhere along the line I will have drawn every member of the Legion in as many of their costumes as they appeared in.
JOHNS: I basically pulled at my favorite characters I remember liking [when I was a kid] and they're the central characters of the piece. The three founders—Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl—Dawnstar, Wildfire, Brainiac 5, Polar Boy, Sun Boy…those are my main characters.
New Legion ongoing?
JOHNS: I'd love to do it. It's just a matter of the right person to do it with and the time. But I'd absolutely love to write a monthly Legion of Super-Heroes book. I really want to write a Superman the Legion of Super-Heroes book. I don't know if it'll be a reality or not, but it's definitely something I want to do.
PÉREZ: In my case, probably unlikely. If nothing else, the ability to do that kind of a book on a monthly basis may be getting beyond my years. And by doing this where I get to draw all the Legions, what really is there left for me to do with [the team]? Revisiting past glories is not something I can easily do. Although, I would love to do at least one issue of Wonder Woman just so I can work with Gail Simone! [Laughs]

A full lineup of “Warner Premiere’s Motion Comics” and release dates will be announced shortly after Comic-Con.
Watchmen – Motion Comic
“Watchmen” takes viewers through the critically acclaimed DC Comics and Hugo award-winning graphic novel by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. Set in 1985 at the height of the cold war between the United States and the Soviet Union, costumed avengers have been banned with the exception of two – The Comedian and Rorschach. During this time the mysterious murder of a United States government official named Edward Blake occurs in New York, possibly by Soviet Communists. It is later confirmed that Blake is actually a costumed avenger – The Comedian. The news of the murder is discovered by his fellow costumed avenger, Rorschach who sets out to discover the murderer.
During his search viewers discover whether Rorschach is really insane or if he’s uncovered a plot to murder super-heroes and, even worse, millions of innocent civilians. On the run from the law, Rorschach reunites with his former teammates in a desperate attempt to save the world and their lives. But what they uncover will shock them to their very core and change the face of the planet. Following two generations of masked superheroes from the close of World War II to the icy shadow of the Cold War comes this groundbreaking comic story — the story of The Watchmen.
In the July 18 edition of Entertainment Weekly fans will find a special link through EW.com (www.ew.com/watchmen) that provides access to the episode via iTunes. Additional episodes for purchase will also be made available via iTunes and other distribution partners in the coming months leading to the theatrical release of Watchmen in 2009.
Batman: Mad Love
“Batman: Mad Love” is taken directly from the pages of the Eisner Award-winning single issue graphic novel by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. The story revolves around The Joker’s sidekick Harley Quinn who is madly in love with him. She uses crime to demonstrate her love for her “Puddin’” and sets out to commit the ultimate act of love – killing Batman.
The “Batman: Mad Love” Motion Comic will be available to purchase from Xbox Live and viewing on mobile phones enabled for Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Video service starting July 22. “Batman: Mad Love” episodes will also be available from other distribution partners in the coming months.

In an interview with TV Week about the upcoming season of “Family Guy,” Seth MacFarlane let drop that “Family Guy: The Movie” will be going into production within a year. “We want to do it. And it is time. In the past six months we have seriously started talking about it,” MacFarlane said. “And my hope is that we will get it going within the next year. Doing the show is a seven-day a week process, so I don’t know how we will squeeze in a movie. But we will figure it out. I have an idea about what it will be. It is definitely something you wouldn’t be able to do on the show. That’s the only reason to do a movie.” When he was asked if there would be nudity and obscenities, MacFarlane added, “Oh, yeah!”
Considering the success of the "Simpsons Movie" this seems like it makes good financial success.

IGN chatted with Transformers actress Megan Fox this week at the Television Critics Association summer press tour where the beauty spoke about the Michael Bay-directed sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, as well as her forthcoming thriller Jennifer's Body. You can read the interview here. Revenge of the Fallen will have a release date of June 26, 2009.
It's opening in the most North American theaters ever! From The Hollywood Reporter:
The film's more than 4,366 domestic playdates is a record, surpassing the 4,362 theaters for May 2007's bow of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." Double- and triple-screening at many venues means "Dark Knight" will play on 9,200 screens in the U.S. and Canada.
Its engagements include 94 Imax venues -- Nolan shot long segments using Imax-format cameras -- and most of those giant-screen auditoriums were sold out by midweek. A Warners exec estimated that Imax presales totaled $3.5 million, with advance ticketing for other venues adding considerably to that total.
"Dark Knight" also bows in more than a dozen foreign markets this weekend and several more the following frame, but some of the bigger territories won't get the film until August because of calendar-driven marketing considerations in some countries. "Dark Knight" rung up a big first-day estimate of almost $2.3 million Wednesday in Australia, where the territory's usual Thursday bow was moved up one day to take advantage of a final week of school holidays.

Dogmatic Films is putting together a documentary about Comic-Con and is looking for young artists who plan to share their portfolio or comic with publishers in San Diego next week. Here are the details:
Throughout Comic-Con in San Diego next week, Dogmatic Films is filming a documentary about the experience from the perspective of several attendees. In addition to showcasing the cultural phenomenon that Comic-Con has become through interviews with celebrities, industry executives, comic book store owners, costumed veterans, first timers, and so on, we will be following several attendees throughout the convention. Like many Comic-Con attendees, our main subjects are either looking to be discovered or are hoping to discover something new for themselves.
We have lined up most of our participants, but are actively looking for a young artist who is bringing his/her portfolio to be reviewed by DC Comics, Marvel, etc, in hopes of getting a job as an artist. Secondly, we are also looking for someone with an independent comic book hoping to get it picked up by a bigger publisher or attract a wider audience.
In addition, if you’re an industry executive, comic book store owner, professional artist, and so on, we’d love to interview you. One of our cameras will be dedicated for these interviews, so we can accomodate your schedule at the convention.
If you or someone you know would be interested in this exciting project, please email us at: dogmaticfilms@gmail.com and we will arrange to meet at the convention. Thank you!

World-renowned fantasy artist Frank Frazetta filed a complaint today with the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York, against publisher J. David Spurlock and Vanguard Productions. The complaint alleges that in publishing the book FRAZETTA DEFINITIVE REFERENCE, featuring Frazetta's artwork and prominently displaying his unique signature, Spurlock and Vanguard used the artist's name for advertizing and trade purposes without obtaining prior approval, thus committing a violation of Section 50 of the Civil Rights Law of the State of New York.
The complaint further alleges that, during the period beginning on or about April 8, 2008, Spurlock and Vanguard knowingly, willfully, and in bad faith released in New York State and elsewhere literature prominently using Frazetta's name in advertizing the book, including solicitation materials clearly stating, "endorsed by the artist," despite possessing knowledge that such statement was contrary to fact and made without the artist's consent. No agreement exists, oral or written, between Spurlock or Vanguard and Frank Frazetta.
Section 50 of the Civil Rights Law of the State of New York guarantees the right of privacy, and states that, "A person, firm or corporation that uses for advertising purposes, or for the purposes of trade, the name, portrait or picture of any living person without having first obtained the written consent of such person, or if a minor of his or her parent or guardian, is guilty of a misdemeanor."
Section 51 states, "Any person whose name, portrait, picture or voice is used within this state for advertising purposes or for the purposes of trade without the written consent first obtained ... may maintain an equitable action in the supreme court of this state against the person, firm or corporation so using his name, portrait, picture or voice, to prevent and restrain the use thereof; and may also sue and recover damages for any injuries sustained by reason of such use ..."
Stating in the complaint that Spurlock and Vanguard have been "unjustly enriched by unlawful use of the plaintiff's name and reputation as an artist," Frazetta demands that Spurlock and Vanguard be enjoined and restrained from using his name, image, or likeness in distribution, promotion, or sale of the book.
Based on Section 51 of the Civil Rights Law of the State of New York, Frazetta has further asked for compensatory damages of $2,000,000 and exemplary damages of $500,000, while requiring that Spurlock and Vanguard provide an account of all proceeds received from sales of the book. Frazetta is represented by The Law Office of Tedd Kessler, PC, located in New York, NY. Vanguard Productions is located in Clinton, NJ and is represented by Penino & Moynihan, LLP, White Plains, NY.
About Frank Frazetta
Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, Frank Frazetta began his career as an illustrator at the age of 16. In the 1950s he illustrated comic books and comic strips, then in the 1960s began painting covers for magazines, record albums, and movie posters. Those, along with his award-winning paperback book covers propelled him to fame, establishing him as one of the most popular and influential artists of the 2nd half of the 20th Century. In 2003 the artist was the subject of the documentary film Frazetta: Painting with Fire.

The trailer for Watchmen, set in a world where costumed crime fighting heroes have been outlawed, was posted on Empire earlier. Since then the trailer was taken down (for legal reasons or site issues I don't know) but Cinema Blend has it up if you can't wait. The trailer will also be shown in US cinemas before "The Dark Knight."
Watchmen, starring Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Matthew Goode, Stephen McHattie and Carla Gugino will be released March 6, 2009.
update: You can also find the new trailer on the Apple site!

Beginning with with October's issue #34, Sterling Gates, Jamal Igle & Keith Champagne will become the new creative team on Supergirl. I can't wait! Hopefully with this team working on Kara, her personality will be fleshed out more, as well as giving her a decent supporting cast and her own enemies. Well that, and tighter integration with the other "Super" titles of course.

The New York Times reports that "Invincible: The Series," an animated version of Image Comics’ hugely popular superhero title created by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker will be developed by MTV New Media and available July 22 on iTunes, Xbox Live, MTV.com, MTV2 and MTV Mobile.
The show uses actual pages of Kirkman and Walker’s comic book and animates them through a process called Bomb-X. The stories are filled with motion, music and vocal performances similar to those of a traditionally produced cartoon. MTV2 will air an “Invincible” special at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 25.

Yahoo Movies has the first teaser trailer for Terminator Salvation. The film is set in 2018, focusing on the original war between humanity and Skynet.

Graphic novel aficionados rejoice! Now for the first time since its original publication in 1984, the black and white comics from Scott McCloud's classic series Zot! are being reprised in their entirety. This commemorative compilation marks the first time that these comics are being offered together in one volume. In Zot! The Complete Black and White Collection: 1987-1991 (Harper; Trade Paperback Original; On Sale July 22, 2008; $24.95), McCloud not only includes never-seen-before art, but he also provides extensive commentary about his creative process, his evolution as an artist and the state of the comics industry during this incredibly pivotal period.
McCloud first created Zot! at the age of 23, when both he and the comics world were poised on the threshold of adulthood. In fact, it was this series and its frenetic and innovative exploration of comics' potential that ultimately helped shape McCloud's views and set the stage for his ground breaking theoretical works, Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics, and Making Comics.
Hailed by Samuel R. Delaney, author of Dark Reflections, as ". . .refreshing, lively, and truly entertaining," this collection of McCloud's stories combines the best ideas from Manga, alternative comics and superheroes and in many ways serves as a formal precursor to the wave of American Manga that was to come.
The series follows the adventures of Zachary T. Paleozogt, A.K.A. "Zot", who lives in "the far-flung future of 1965," a utopian Earth of world peace, robot butlers and flying cars. When Zot's travels take him to a world of disappointment and broken promises--the Earth we live in--his one consolation is meeting the lovely Jenny Weaver. Stepping across portals to each other's world, Zot's and Jenny's lives are forever changed.
Celebrated by comics fans throughout the world, McCloud's books have been published in more than 16 languages. Among his many honors, Scott is the recipient of the Quill Award for Best Graphic Novel in 2007 for Making Comics. The legendary Will Eisner, has called McCloud's work "a landmark dissection and intellectual consideration of comics as a valid medium."
In so far as Zot! is the fictional series that made all subsequent McCloud books on comics theory possible, this commemorative edition deserves a special place on every comic collector's bookshelf.

Comic-Con International, the largest comic book and popular arts event in the United States, is proud to announce that Archie Goodwin and Larry Lieber have been selected to receive the 2008 Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing. The choice was made unanimously by a blue-ribbon committee chaired by writer and historian Mark Evanier.
The Bill Finger Award was instituted in 2005 under the supervision of comic book legend Jerry Robinson. The awards committee is charged each year with selecting two recipients, one living and one deceased.
"With all the writers who seem worthy of this award, you'd think it would be an impossible decision," Evanier explains. "But this year, two names just jumped off the list of candidates. Much like the late Bill Finger, Larry Lieber and Archie Goodwin did important, groundbreaking work in our field that has not received the recognition it deserves. We're hoping to rectify that a little with these awards."
Archie Goodwin did his first work in comics (mystery stories for Harvey, along with assisting Leonard Starr with the newspaper strip On Stage) in the late 1950s. From 1964 to 1967, he produced a body of acclaimed work as writer/editor of Creepy and Eerie, then moved on to work as both a writer and editor for DC Comics and Marvel, writing memorable scripts for Batman, Iron Man, Star Wars, Manhunter, and many others. He also wrote several newspaper strips, including Star Wars, Secret Agent X-9, and Captain Kate. Goodwin passed away in 1998.
Larry Lieber began working in 1950 at the company now known as Marvel, doing artwork under the editorship of his brother, Stan Lee. In the late 1950s, he and Stan comprised the entire writing staff for the company, and Larry's work on monster comics (including the acclaimed "Fin Fang Foom") helped lay the groundwork for the Marvel superhero line of the sixties. For that line, Larry scripted the first stories of Thor and Iron Man and many early tales of The Human Torch. He is currently the illustrator of the Spider-Man newspaper strip.
The Bill Finger Award honors the memory of William Finger (1914"1974), who was the first and, some say, most important writer of Batman. Many have called him the "unsung hero" of the character and have hailed his work not only on that iconic figure but on dozens of others, primarily for DC Comics.
In addition to Evanier, the selection committee consists of Charles Kochman (executive editor at Harry N. Abrams), comics and animation writer Paul Dini, writer Tony Isabella, and writer/editor Marv Wolfman.
The 2008 awards are part of Comic-Con International with DC Comics as the major sponsor, along with supporting sponsors Comics Buyer’s Guide (CBG) and Heritage Auctions.
The Bill Finger Award will be presented during the 2008 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony at this summer's Comic-Con on Friday, July 25.
Additional information on the Finger Award can be found at www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_finger.shtml

Fans of IDW’s first Doctor Who miniseries featuring the Tenth Doctor had one constant request -- give us the past Doctors, too. In August, they’ll get their wish Tenfold, on the pages of Doctor Who: The Forgotten.
This new series not only finds a clever way to present a story featuring all of the Doctor’s incarnations, but it also features award-winning artist Pia Guerra in her first regular assignment since the acclaimed Y, The Last Man series came to a close.
Doctor Who: The Forgotten is a six-part tale written by Tony Lee (Starship Troopers) and featuring resident Doctor Who expert and colorist Charlie Kirchoff (Doctor Who Classic, Doctor Who: Agent Provocateur) adding hues to Guerra’s linework. Artist Nick Roche will again provide covers for IDW’s Doctor Who series.
In Doctor Who: The Forgotten, Dr. Who finds himself stranded in a strange Museum that’s dedicated to him; and with no TARDIS in sight. The Doctor and Martha must make sense of their surroundings, hindered by one small fact… the Doctor has lost his memories of every one of his previous incarnations! With items relevant to each Doctor in their possession, The Doctor must try to use them to regain his memories before it’s too late.
In the popular Doctor Who novel “The Eight Doctors,” writer Terrance Dick, of whom Tony Lee is a great fan, re-visited previous incarnations of the Doctor in the midst of adventures from the original series. In IDW’s Doctor Who: The Forgotten, Lee decided to take the alternate route and create all new adventures for the classic Doctors. “Although it's always nice to revisit old friends,” Lee says, “I think we can give more 'forgotten tales' in these short flashbacks. We have the First Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan meeting Egyptians; we have the Second, Jamie and Zoe meeting space lizards; the Third, Jo and The Brigadier defeating aliens on Dartmoor; the Fourth and Romana in millennium Paris; the Fifth, Tegan and Turlough facing a more recent addition in a Village cricket match; the Sixth and Peri in a courtroom; the Seventh and Ace in an alien war torn city; the Eighth alone in a Count of Monte Cristo setting; and the Ninth and Rose in the trenches of World War I. And every single one of them has been an utter joy to write.”
The creative partnership between Lee and artist Pia Guerra was initiated after they met recently at the Earls Court VIP launch of the Doctor Who Exhibition. In a pub afterwards, they talked about what their favorite episodes were and how they wished certain characters could work great in a story together. “We formed a strong bond that day, I feel” Lee said.
Lee added, “The funniest thing is that in the UK I say I'm writing this book and suddenly everyone's excited. In the US, I talk about the books to nods, and when I mention Pia -- that's when the squeals start.”
Doctor Who: The Forgotten #1 (JUN08 4045) will arrive in mid-August. Doctor Who: Agent Provocateur TPB (JUN08 4047), collecting the first IDW miniseries, will be available in August as well.

The plot of the movie is based on George Perez' 1987 "Gods and Mortals" arc. The folks at Redmond are debuting a new 60GB Xbox 360 to replace the $349 pricepoint, which will be available in "early August." You can pick up a 20GB "while supplies last," but the $279 Arcade and $449 Elite prices are still firm. The price drop is expected to be officially announced during Monday's E3 keynote.
The Elite edition also recieves a $50 price drop on Amazon, now costing $400.
On the PS3 side of things, Sony Japan has said that there are no plans to drop the current price of the PlayStation 3.
Speaking to investors, chief financial officer Nobuyuki Oneda said "Our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability. Our plan is not to reduce the price."
Also, Sony could be replacing the 40GB PlayStation 3 model with a new version as early as next month, according to a Wal-Mart data sheet obtained by Joystiq. Wonder what'll replace it? Hopefully something will be announced at E3.
The upcoming fighting game Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe's story will be written by comic writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. This will be the first game in the franchise that will not bear the "M" Rating as confirmed by the producer Ed Boon in a video interview.
So far, only 5 arenas have been announced (The "Hell" arena and "Lin Kuei Temple" arenas from Mortal Kombat, as well as DC locations such as Metropolis, the Batcave, Gotham City, and Central City).
The infamous finishing moves will be performed by all Mortal Kombatants and DC Comics villains, but not by any of DC's heroes. The heroes will instead have "brutalities," moves which inflict pain upon the recipients without totally murdering them. Epic Games reports that the game is being developed using their Unreal Engine 3 and the release has been announced for the PS3 and Xbox 360. More screens can be found here, as well as upcoming announcements from E3.

Production is set to begin in October of this year. Locations are being scouted in Michigan and throughout the United States. Additional casting is also being considered.
Executive Producer and Vice President of Red Sonja, LLC, Luke Lieberman says "Red Sonja is a unique character with a rich history and bright destiny. Her struggles and triumphs have endured in the hearts of fans for decades, and now her legend can reach a truly global audience. Rose Mcgowan's passion and Robert Rodriguez's vision will bring the 'She-Devil' to life on the grandest of stages."
"Dynamite has been publishing Red Sonja comics for the last several years, reinventing the character for a modern audience and we're exceptionally pleased that the right combination of talent has been found to bring her to life on the big screen. It was a long search -- three years -- but Rose is ideal for the part, and Robert as producer will ensure that a pure creative vision remains in place, and captures elements of the stories that Dynamite has been telling,” says Executive Producer Nick Barrucci. Barrucci is also President/Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment.

The Dark Knight co-writer David Goyer has revealed that Catwoman and the Penguin are unlikely to feature in future Batman sequels.
Goyer explained that, despite re-introducing the Joker in the upcoming sequel, the filmmakers want to explore new villains in future films.
He said: "Batman has been published for 70 years. In the first movie, we used Ra's Al Ghul and the Scarecrow, who had not been in the movies before, and had not been in the '60s TV show before. There are dozens if not hundreds of other characters that fit that bill. Everyone says it's got to be the Penguin or Catwoman [in the next film]... well I completely disagree."
Well either way, here's a short list of who I'd like to see in a future Batman movie:
Riddler
Deadshot
Black Mask
Ventriloquist & Scarface
Mad Hatter
Hush
Clayface
Man-Bat
Holiday
Here's hoping!

Reuters reports that Marvel's latest film, The Incredible Hulk is unlikely to get a sequel.
"We're happy with the financial results, even if they [only] reach the first film's levels," a Marvel insider insisted. "Having a sequel is not the definition of success."
That being said, about one month after release, the Louis Leterrier-directed "The Incredible Hulk" has earned $125 million, the same as what "Hulk" raked in at the same time in its run. "Hulk" finished with $132 million [domestically], and its successor is unlikely to do much better.
"Hollywood is always about perception," he noted. "The first Hulk had such high expectations after the NBC-Universal merger, then with the new Hulk film, Marvel was able to underplay the importance of the success after the great success of Iron Man this summer. So the new one overdelivered, relative to its underpromise."
It's key to remember that "Hulk" has yet to be released in some markets and huge digital video market... either way, it's been a great year for comic bok movies, who knows what the future holds?
Tatsunoko, the legendary Japanese Anime studio who brought us classics like Speed Racer and Gatchaman get the Marvel vs Capcom treatment in the upcoming arcade fighter: Tatsunoko VS Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes!
Characters announced so far include Ryu, Chun-Li & Alex (Street Fighter) join Batsu Ichimonji (Rival Schools), Morrigan Aensland (Darkstalkers) & Sōki (Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams), Eagle Ken (Gatchaman), Casshern, Tekkaman, Yatterman No. 1, Hurricane Polymar, Gold Lightan. Hopefully, characters like Dante, Sigma & Zero (Mega Man) will make it to the final lineup. I'm also hoping it surpasses Marvel vs Capcom 2 in total characters included as well, as MvC2 had 56 to choose from. TvC should be in Japanese arcades by this Winter. Capcom please bring this game to North America!
Sony's "Hancock" made an estimated $107.3 million over 5½ days to become the third-biggest Fourth of July opener of all time after “Transformers” and “Spider-Man 2.” Of “Hancock’s” total tally, an estimated $66 million was grossed over the weekend. Internationally, the movie had a launch of $78.3 million.
"Hancock" notched the year's third-largest foreign opening after "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and "Iron Man" -- and did so while holding off on launches in key territories such as France, Mexico and Russia, where it opens next weekend.
